Ledger is one of the top crypto hardware wallet manufacturers in the market and offers different types and corresponding accessories. What a hardware wallet is is described in the article wallets on our knowledge base and will not be discussed in depth here.

Hardware Wallets from Ledger

Ledger offers with Ledger Nano-S, -Splus, and -X three hardware wallets that cover different needs and can be used together with the software ledger live. But let’s take a closer look at the wallets and their advantages. In the beginning, I would like to mention that I use the Ledger Nano-S and -X and am very satisfied.

Ledger Nano S

Nano S can hold up to 27 coins and more than 1500 tokens. Together with the app Live ledger, buying, selling, exchanges, staking and lending can be operated. However, it depends on the respective coin and token.

Important: Only 3 to 6 applications can be installed on the Nano Ledger S at the same time, depending on their size. If someone has a larger crypto portfolio, he must take this into account or switch to a Nano X or another alternative.

You can install more applications and thus save more currencies, but then you would have to uninstall them again and again and install them again as needed. You do not lose the cryptos, that’s not the problem, but then you have to constantly install and uninstall.

But just to tone this down a bit, consider that, for example, every ERC20 token can be stored on the Ethereum app. In other words, if I have the Ethereum app installed on the ledger, I can store the countless other currencies based on the ERC20 tokens on it as well.

Capacity: Nano S can store around 27 coins and more than 1500 tokens.

Integration: A plus is that ledger can be integrated with host of WEB3 wallets such as Metamask.

Ledger Nano S Plus

The legendary Nano S has been enhanced with DEFI and NFT support with its successor Nano S Plus. In addition, the Nano S Plus has a larger display than the Nano S, which makes handling the wallet itself a bit easier. Together with the app Live ledger, buying, selling, exchanges, staking and lending can be operated. However, it depends on the respective coin and token.

Capacity: Up to 100 apps can be installed on the S Plus, making it much easier to manage different coins and tokens without having to uninstall and install apps. Up to 5500 coins and tokens can be stored in this wallet.

Ledger Nano X

The Nano X is the flagship of the ledger series. With it, you get a high-quality wallet with a larger capacity and a bigger screen. In addition, the device can be accessed via Bluetooth. For example, you can also connect Ledger Live to the Nano X via the mobile app. Also here DEFI and NFT’s can be stored.

Practically the same as with Ledger Nano S Plus

Conclusion

In the current post, we have written the three hardware wallets offered by Ledger and compared them. It can be said that Ledger is one of the leading hardware wallets for cryptocurrencies and we can recommend buying it. The exact need should be clarified when making a purchase.

The price varies and the difference between the Nano S and Nano X is US$ 90.00. I personally own both the Ledger Nano S and the Nano X. I was surprised that only 3 to 6 applications could be installed on the first one and this was the reason for me to buy the Nano X.

The convenience aspect came to bear with me because I hold many different coins in the portfolio. Although I do not hold large amounts, I would like to be reasonably diversified and not hold my investments unnecessarily long on an exchange or other hot wallet. Nano X allows me to hold all coins and tokens in a hardware wallet. As a passionate fan, I had mainly decided to hold my investments, i.e. to invest in coins for a longer period of time.

This is what finally led me to spend the money on Nano X and make this one-time investment. Now I don’t have to worry about too little capacity or integrability. The connectivity via Bluetooth and mobile is an additional plus.

Especially if you have an iPhone. Security-wise, however, the possible connection via Bluetooth is debatable and you would also have to consider this when buying a Ledger Nano if you need and want it at all.

If you buy one, you can really consider whether you would rather buy the Ledger Nano S Plus instead of a Nano X, since the capacities are not far apart.

The Nano S is certainly a good wallet if you can get by with the capacities or if you are willing to accept the additional expenses when increasing the portfolio.

In the following post, we will talk about setting up the Ledger Nano X and take a more detailed look at it.
