As mentioned in our previous blog post, we will briefly discuss how to set up a Ledger Nano X and provide step-by-step instructions. Yes, we know on the Internet and on youtube there are already x-thousands of such tutorials which is also good. But since we have talked about the Ledger in this blogpost, we would of course not want to leave out this area. Therefore, we try to limit ourselves to the essentials in this article without spending too much time.
How to start with Ledger Nano
- Unpack ledger and provide cable
- Remove the transparent film protection from the screen.
- Connect Ledger to PC/MAC with supplied USB cable.
- Enter www.ledger.com/start in the browser. Now, you will see the following page
Remark: When you open the home page, you can already see the first differences from the tutorials that we have found so far on the Internet on youtube or other channels. We assume that this is due to Ledger page updates and changes etc…
Setup the Software Ledger Live
This setup guide for the Nano X device is done through the installation of the ledger live software and by connecting the Nano X device to the laptop.
- Download the app, therefore choose the operating system of your computer
- Start the application
- First, you have to accept the terms of use, then you click “enter Ledger app”
- If Ledger live is installed for the first time, the application will ask for the device.
- A selection menu appears, select “First time using your Nano X” when setting up for the first time.
- if you have already set up the nano separately and only the software would be new on the computer or a restore would be necessary you could also select this here
- Choose “setup a new Nano X”. After that a short information tutorial is shown. Click through it and at the end click “let’s do this.”
The best way to get you started
- Plan 30 minutes and take your time.
- Grab a pen to write with
- Stay alone, and choose a safe and quiet environment
- click “ok, I’m ready!”
- After having clicked the button an advice will be shown with the following text. ” Please be careful. Make sure you follow the instructions on this app at every step of the process.” Click “Got it”.
- Turn on Nano (Ledger must be connected to the computer with the USB cable)
- Read on-screen instructions on the Nano X and use the buttons
- Welcome Screen, click the right button.
- Click through the menu until you come to the entry “Setup as new device”.
- Confirm by clicking both buttons simultaneously.
- Now a 4-8 digits Pin Code has to be chosen. You can use single buttons to choose the number. Confirmation and change to the next digit by clicking both buttons simultaneously.
- Pin Code has to be confirmed once again.
- Write down your recovery phrase: This is a secret list of 24 words that backs up your private keys. Important: This List is unique and Ledger does not keep a copy of it!
- Now take the provided recovery sheet and confirm on the device with buttons.
- The ledger screen shows up with a warning that the 24 words are the only backup and the list shall be stored in a safe place. click right button
- Now note down the words and order shown on the Nano X device screen
- after that Ledger asks you to confirm the shown words and their order
- The Nano X device is now ready
